Ok, guys, here we go. We’ve all heard about the dangers of tanning in the sun and/or tanning beds. (And if you haven’t, you need to read this, this, and this right now!) Destroying your skin (and upping your changes for getting cancer) is just not worth it.
But many of you may ask, “But, Lindi, how can we get that summer glow? Summer is coming!”
Relax; I got you! There are plenty of ways you can get a gorgeous summer glow without roasting in the sun.
Professional Spray Tans
If you have the desire to get the most natural looking a streak-free summer glow out there without laying out in the sun, I suggest getting a professional spray tan. There are several places that you can get a gorgeous glow in and around the Houston are. I’m talking about Beautifully Bronzed, Tan In Ten, and Darque Tan to name a few (and these few are the one’s I’ve heard the most about.)
Worried about the chemicals in spray tanning? Beautifully Bronzed and Tan in Ten use 100% organic ingredients in their tanning.
I, personally, have not used spray tanning before, because I have always had apprehensions about the spray-tan business from when they first started when women would return from their session looking like Oompa Loompas. However, with advancements in the beauty world and newer formulas being introduced (Organic, Vegan spray tan, anyone?), I’m seriously considering getting my own spray on summer glow this summer!
Not too keen on getting a professional spray tan? That’s totally okay; you still have tons of options! You can buy self-tanners in beauty and drug stores all across the US as well as online. Or, you can make a homemade self tanner.
I will not lie; I LOVE SELF-TANNERS!!!! You have several different options for buying them, too. You can get them in a lotion, a foam, an in-shower, and even in oils.
I would be doing you all a disservice if I did not give you a range of products and prices that I’ve heard great things from, right?
My absolute #1 self-tanner goes to the Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer (and it now comes in a pump bottle!!!!) It’s a lotion that you apply every day until you achieve your desired shade. The only downfall that I found was applying it to my back. The formula is not so potent that it would make you streaky by any means, but the very center of my back would always appear less tan than the rest of me unless I used a towel (or got someone to help me).
Want something a little more, well, immediate? One of the cheapest quick-tans is Jergens’ Natural Glow Instant Sun mousse that you apply with your hands and allow to dry onto your skin. The color will develop in a few hours. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about this one, though, so you may want to spot test before you apply to your entire body.
One of the most praised self-tanners (and one that I WILL try because I’ve heard praises of this for years from some of the most accomplished – and beautifully tanned – YouTube stars) is the Loving Tan Bronzing Mousse. I’m not kidding; most of the YouTube beauty gurus that I follow absolutely RAVE about this stuff!
Another one that I want to try (and one you can pick up at your local Ulta) is the St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Starter Kit. It’s much cheaper than the Loving Tan (though many would argue that you get what you pay for with the Loving Tan products), but I’ve only heard good reviews about this one.
Wha?! Homemade self-tanner? Ok, I’ll admit that I’m a bit dubious about this as well. So, I did some digging. I had seen a promising Pinterest pin about using Cocoa powder to achieve glorious summer glow results, and I’m sure you have, too.
DON’T DO IT.
Bottom line: If you want to self tan, buy a product that you know will work.
What about Your Face?
So, I am not an advocate for putting anything on my face that is not specifically made for the face. Lotion? Uh, no. Spray tan (store-bought or professional)? Not gonna happen. So, if you are like me, what can you do to make sure your face that the same summer glow as your body? You have two options (unless a self tanner you buy says that it can be used on the face).
Self-Tan Face Lotions
I’ve heard so many good things about the Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen. I’ve heard thing, yes, but I have not actually used this product. I’m SUPER picky when it comes to putting things on my face, so I know many who would recommend it. But I say to proceed with caution because I have a few friends who claimed that this broke them out.
This is the route that I always take. You can buy bronzers practically everywhere. I highly recommend a matte or semi-matte one, because it looks more natural.
I loooove the NYX Matte Bronzer. It’s inexpensive, and it will give you a wonderful summer glow if you lightly dust it everywhere the sun would hit your face naturally. I’ve also used the Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer. However, it is really pricey (I got mine from a beauty subscription).
Both of these will give you the summer glow you want on your face without actually having to apply self-tanner or spray-tan.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and that it was helpful for you! If you would like to have me put up a tutorial on how to use any of these things, just comment below, and I’ll get right to work!
